I am from Columbus, Ohio and I will begin the online program for an AST degree through the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in January. I am new to the funeral industry and am looking for any tips, suggestions, ideas, etc. I really want to get my foot in the door and learn about the business but none of the funeral homes in my area seem to need any help or they are reluctant to take my offer for help because I am new to the business. Anyone in the Columbus, Ohio metro area that knows of any resources I can use please feel free to contact me. |

LOL. That would nice if I had access to a body. Not giving up though. Still looking. I keep thinking it will be easier once I graduate and get my license. |

When I worked in the Biz we did have a guy show up with his dead wife in his truck. He wanted to save the cost of someone picking her up.
Having a degree always helps in any profession. But keep up the passion and desire and you want let anything stand in your way. That's my definition of Faith! |

Hello Sawna.. I know how you feel when you say they act as if they don't need any help. When I first started school I had an uncle to die in Ohio and E.F. Boyd handled the services. We where at there location in Warrensville Heights (I Think :) ) However, the funeral directress that was there was not very receptive when I was just talking to here about the services and the arrangements. I don't know if she felt somewhat discomfortable because my family look to me to make some of the decisions. Well on the day of the funeral I went out with me cousin afterwards and we ran into someone in the store and he was talking to my cousin and he was telling him about me. Well the man happen to be someone important there (well I don't remember his name name) but he told me to look at going to Pernell Jones Funeral Home in Clevland. I have always held that thought in my head. I have now became licensed in the state of Georgia now. I graduated in February 2007 and just recently completed my apprenticeship. I have been in this business for almost 11 years. Trust me it is trying. |
