Looking for comments, concerns and suggestions about airbrush cosmetics. I have never used it but have heard from other embalmers that they will never use anything else. How easy is it to correct mistakes, make changes at the request of the family once the deceased has been brought upstairs for viewing, cost of a reliable unit and what all is involved? |

Jared;
Thanks for your comments regarding air brush cosmetics. I recently purchased a complete system and use it at my mortuary. It's not that I would never use anything else, because it isnt all that. However, it does place the cosmetic on very lightly, and with practice, evenly. I use it mostly for jaundiced cases that would otherwise need to be pancaked with opaque cosmetics. Also, I find the system reliable for the hands and other visible discolorations. As for it's use on the routine case, it tends to wrinkle or be caught up in the folds of the shin, giving an un natural appearnce that I dont find to be satisfactory at the viewing. The whole system which consists of the air brush, and compressor runds about 350 dollars. I also purchased cosmetics from a theatrical company on line and it was about 25 dollars for each 10 ounce bottle of air brush cosmetic. So, bottome line Jared, It's serious money for what its going to do for you in the long run.
