Okay, so I hit the enter key accidently. Anyhow, my name is Andrew. I am a resident trainee in Michigan and am also a student in Pittsburgh Institute of Mort Sci's on-line program. I can't believe how much I've learned already between apprenticeship and mortuary school. I am looking forward to a long and fufilling career. This is my second career. I am 35 and used to be a registered nurse.

You go , Andy. I'm in MI, too. I thought in MI, you have to have a bachelors degree. Where are you in MI? I'm in metro Detroit area.

How long does it take to complete the PIMS program? I have read quite a bit about them on-line. Sounds like a decent school.

I checked with the state board. In Michigan you need 60 college credits and mortuary school. Its just that Wayne State only offers the Bachelors degree program now. They also make people take a bunch of biology and chemistry before mortuary school. In 2002 the state board changed the requirements to 60 college credits which has to incldue 1 communications class 2 psychology classes and an ethnic/multicultural studies class. After that you need 1 year from an accredited MOrtuary School and one year of resident training! MOst mortuary schools (including mine,) pretty much teach you all the anatomy, chemistry and everything wlse you need top be a successful funeral director/embalmer. Oddly enough, despite Wayne's Bachelors degree, my schools has a higher first time pass rate on the boards! (Not that I have anything against Waynes State's program.) I actually have several classmates who are from Michigan as well!!

My name is Ann, and i am 27 years old. I went to PIMS too... I graduated in Jan 2006 with my associates in specialized business degree. PIMS was great for teaching you what you needed to get through the National boards. Although a great school, they seemed to lack the help in placement for internships. It would have helped to have more guidance in that aspect of the career.

I am now working in Saint Paul MN for a large firm, that soes about 800 calls a year from 7 locations.

PIMS is a short program if thats what you are looking for time wise, but it definately was not an easy program. 20 credit trimesters are mot for everyone.
