We have many members that are Mortuary Science Students or are just out of school and are looking to get their foot "in the door" of the funeral indusrty.

We also have many members that are "Veterans" of the funeral industry and are very wise. I think it would be great if we could use this post to give advice to those who are trying to get "in the door" of our industry.

This is what this site is all about, helping others in our industry by giving advice, guidence, encouragement, whatever it may be that they need to get that "passion" back or put that "passion" to work.

So please ask away and receive the advice and guidence that will help jump start your career.

Thanks so much for posting this topic! I thought I was the only one with this problem. I've just started in an online program through the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. I live in Ohio and I've found that a lot of funeral homes are reluctant to take in people that do not come from a funeral service background or a family that was in the business. I know I'm just starting with my program and that may also be a factor in why no one wants me but I want to try and get my foot in the door somehwere so I can apply what I learn in class.

Here is an article I posted in my blog that shows how dedication and the willingness to start at the bottom can lead to success in the funeral industry.

Like many others have said, "you have to be willing to wash the cars and tak out the trash"
